AGRO wins German Award for Sustainability Projects 2021
AGRO International has won the German Award for Sustainability Projects 2021 in the Process / Recycling category. This award was given for a project on the development of C2C-ready pocket innersprings using fabric and adhesive made of polyester.
The German Award for Sustainability Projects, awarded for the first time this year by the German Institute for Service Quality, the news channel ntv and the DUP UNTERNEHMER magazine, honors companies that drive sustainability forward with innovative projects.
Classic pocket innersprings already have favorable properties for the recycling process. If they are shredded, they can be separated: on the one hand into pieces of wire, and on the other into pieces of fleece with adhesive attached. The wire is already being fed back into the steelmaking process. With the award-winning project, AGRO has gone a decisive step further. Fabric and adhesive can be melted down and regranulated together – and then returned to the production cycle.
This C2C ready innerspring can be used for circular mattresses – and a solution from pilot customer Auping is already on the market.
Managing Director Dominik Meyer on the award-winning project and sustainability at AGRO: “As a family business, AGRO stands for thinking in generations. Our commitment includes a variety of measures on the topic of sustainability. We are very pleased that one of our projects has now been awarded. All AGRO innersprings are already recyclable today. But that is not enough for us. We want the circular product to be the standard in the AGRO portfolio in the future. The awarded project is an important step – currently we are working on more to come.”
